Quick answer

Photos, videos and messages are kept for 30 days on the Free plan and 12 months on Standard and Premium, counted from the event's date, then removed. You get an email two weeks before, and on the paid plans "Keep it longer" adds 6 more months for £99, as often as you like.

An event's photos, videos and messages are kept for a set time after the event's date, long enough to download everything and make an album, then removed. Here's how long that is on each plan, what happens as the date approaches, and how to add time.

The keeping period

  • Free: 30 days from the event's date.
  • Standard and Premium: 12 months from the event's date.

The period runs from the event's date, not from the day you created the event, so setting up months early costs you nothing. Guests can keep sharing for 60 days after the event's date (ask us if you need longer), and the wall and the slideshow stay up for the whole period.

Before anything is removed

Two weeks before the end, you get an email with the date and a reminder to download everything. Nothing is removed without that warning. The event's page in your dashboard shows the date too.

Adding time

On Standard and Premium, "Keep it longer" adds 6 more months for £99, as many times as you like, from the event's Plan tab. It's a one-off payment each time, not a subscription, and the new date is shown straight away. Upgrading a Free event to Standard or Premium moves it to the longer period as well.

When the period ends

The photos, videos and messages are deleted from our storage, and the event's page shows guests that the event has ended. Your event's details stay in your dashboard so you can see what it was, but the files are gone, which is why the reminder asks you to download first. Deleting an event yourself removes everything at once, whenever you choose.

Keeping the photos for good

Download the zip of originals (the downloading article explains how) and keep it in two places. For the guest book, download the text or spreadsheet, or print the keepsake on Premium. The album you make from them is the thing that lasts; DropSnaps is the way to get everyone's photos into it.

Questions people ask

When do uploads open and close?

Uploads open 7 days before the event's date and guests can add photos, videos and messages for 60 days after it. The date can be changed until uploads open; after that, contact us if the event has moved. You can choose an earlier last day under your event's Details, or close uploads with one switch. The wall, the slideshow and your downloads carry on until the photos are removed. If you need uploads open for longer, contact us and we'll move the date.

When does the clock start?

On the event's date, not the day you created the event, so setting up months early costs you nothing.

Will I be warned before photos are removed?

Yes. An email arrives two weeks before the end with the date and a reminder to download everything, and the date is shown on the event's page in your dashboard.

Can I keep the photos longer?

On Standard and Premium, "Keep it longer" on the event's Plan tab adds 6 months for £99, a one-off payment each time. Upgrading a Free event to a paid plan moves it to the longer period too.
